A seminal article by Sigal G. Barsade proved that emotional contagion does occur in groups and an understanding of the same is required for any management practitioner as well as people from all walks of life. Barsade has been successful in proving that positive mood can have significant impact on group dynamics.
The topic of emotional contagion itself is very relevant in modern day business world where more and more decisions are made at the group level. It also has great significance for groups involved in negotiations. Without an understanding of emotional contagion, organisations and individuals may miss out on managing the consequences that arise from a group level activity.
Organisations should actively seek to increase the positive emotions in groups which will increase cooperation between members and reduce group conflict. Positive emotional contagion will also help improve the sense of performance among group members involved. All of these factors have significant impact on organisations thriving for higher growth in the competitive market
